Some news from our lives...
December 15, 2007
It's been a long, long time since the last update. Here's what's (relatively) new:
Max is doing very well (when he's not sick, of course). He crawled at around six months, got his first tooth at 7 1/2 months, took his first steps at 10 months and started walking in earnest at around 11 months. He eats everything in sight and is pretty much off of baby food -- he's only interested in eating what we're eating these days, especially if it's something he can pick up on his own. Joel is still a bit of a fussy eater, but he's been much more willing to try new things. He's also making small steps towards learning how to read, and still has an incredibly active imagination.
May 23, 2007
I added two new Growing kids pictures, and I'm also pre-loading the images now so it should load a little slower the first time you go in, but much, much faster after that. I also improved the image quality a bit over the previous versions. Let me know if something's not working for you...
May 14, 2007
Tons of new stuff to (finally) put up:
- Many new pictures of both of the kids
- about 9 new videos
- A new look at both Growing kids
-- I updated the "Growing Joel" page to be a "Growing Kids" page, and added links to let you switch back and forth between Joel and Max. It's a little slow the first time you load each picture (subsequent viewings are much faster) and I need to do a little work on the pictures (I think some of them are a little grainy). But it's still a pretty fun way to watch the kids get bigger and bigger.
Everything is going well around here -- Max is growing and thriving, though maybe not as much as Joel did. He's around the 75th percentile in height and weight. He rolled over for the first time maybe a week before Joel did, though Max went back to front instead of front to back. He's a very well-tempered and smiley little baby, and probably the thing he likes smiling at the most these days is his big brother.
November 7, 2006
After a pathetically long time without an update, I finally added a few things:
If you want to see pictures from last year's Halloween party, they're
linked here and you can also get to them from the Pictures page at any time.
I'm hoping to get a chance to change the layout of this whole web site quite a bit over the coming weeks so we'll see how that goes!
September 28, 2006
First, I'll mention that there's:
Developmentally, Joel's doing great. The latest thing that really blows us away is how well and how quickly he memorizes his books. We play a game where we read his books and make intentional mistakes, and he always gets them. He'll even get the unintentional ones, for example if you say 'to' instead of 'into'. He can sometimes be coaxed to "read" them for you, but that's harder to do.
He's back in Montessori school again and having fun with that, and he gets frequent playdates with Ella who spends some time over at our house during the week. They're starting to play together much more like you'd expect kids to (no longer just playing 'near' each other), which is a lot of fun to watch. He's still got some things to learn about sharing, though!
Keri's second pregnancy is moving along normally and she can feel the baby move daily now. Just a few more months and our house will be that much fuller...
August 15, 2006
A quick update to add:
August 10, 2006
To some people this may be HUGE news: we're having another baby! The due date is currently December 22. For those of you
that already know that news, we have more big news: it's another boy! Keri just went in today for her 20 week ultrasound,
where they determine the gender and do all sorts of other measurements and status checkups.
So we'll have two little boys running around. No, we don't know what we'll name the second one yet...Aidan, Colby, Magnus Ver
and Ishkabibble are all being taken into consideration (with many more).
Here's a page with several very cool pictures from our second baby's ultrasound.
And I also finally got around to adding a couple videos of Joel to the videos page.
July 31, 2006
We recently returned from a vacation which started with Kevin & Hope's wedding, continued through Teton & Yellowstone Parks
and ended with a lot of golf in Montana. I didn't take many pictures at the wedding, but Keri took a long video of the
ceremony itself. Right-click the link below to download and save it, but it's about 65 MB so it's going to take a long
time to come down (it might be a good idea to start the download and let it run overnight, then watch the video in the morning).
It's about 12 minutes long, and the sound for the actual ceremony isn't great. But if you want to see how things looked from the
back of the crowd, here it is:
I also put up a page of pictures from the trip (mostly Yellowstone):
...and you can see a couple new pictures from just before we left on Joel's
two to two-and-a-half years page.
May 25, 2006
A quick update to add:
Joel is also finishing up his first semester of Montessori preschool. We had
a parent-teacher conference and it was pretty interesting. You can view all
the comments here, here
and here.
May 2, 2006
I finally added some new pictures and I also re-formatted the old ones. I
decided I didn't like using Picasa so we're back to the old 'look-and-feel'.
Most of these pictures were already posted, some without captions. I've
repointed all those links to this page now and I'm going to do them in this
style for the near future, anyway.
Joel's definitely growing. He's pretty heavy, though we haven't weighed him
lately. But he's over 3 feet tall, having added two inches or more
since his 2 year checkup.
He talks all the time and loves to sing too. Lately he's started singing
songs alliteratively, but changing the words, like: "Blinkle, blinkle blittle
blar..." He also seems to like singing one of the USU fight songs, but he
says "USU Maggies!" instead of Aggies. We're pretty sure he's doing it on
purpose.
Summer's coming and Joel loves being outside. He'll play and dig in a sandbox (or
wood chips or just dirt) for hours on end. He also loves to go to one of the
parks around here and "slide on slides and swing on swings". He still enjoys
his pre-school time too, and seems to spend most of his time there
painting. We've got a huge stack of artwork that he's brought home.
He's hard to photograph these days -- he seems to anticipate the flash and
close his eyes, whether or not the flash is actually on. We'll keep trying
though, and hopefully it won't be a month in between every update!
April 5, 2006
I've been pretty horrible about updating the web page but here's some quickies
February 15, 2006
January was a pretty busy month for Keri & Greg, but here's some new Joel pics
and videos:
I'm going to be changing the look and feel of the web site over the
next...uh...year? I hope? When I get the chance anyway. I'm experimenting
with different things on the pictures pages. Hopefully you like the way it
looks and loads -- if not, please let me know.
In Joel-related news, he continues to amaze us with how well he can talk. He
talks in very complete sentences (like "Daddy's cell phone is ringing but he
can't answer it because he's downstairs working") and has a huge vocabulary.
He also learned to say "Thank you" and is really good about saying it. He's
getting better at saying "Please" too, though he still doesn't remember to do
it when he's frustrated.
He's got the funny habit of speaking in sort of a dialogue-form. So he'll say
"Can you have a milkshake? said Daddy" when he wants a shake. That
asking-in-the-form-of-a-question thing is pretty common too ("Do you want to
take a nap?" when he wants to take a nap, for example). It sounds like he's
mostly picking up on things we say and repeating them verbatim. But then he
surprises us by frequently getting pronouns right and tense right, like in the
cell phone sentence above.
About a month ago he had a strange habit of repeating the last sound of lots
of words ("I'm going to take off my socks-ks-ks" or "Is Daddy wearing a red
shirt-t-t?"). That seems to have gone away, but it was pretty funny while
it lasted.
He's pretty bad about sharing with other kids and even with us -- he's big on
ownership and things that are his. He really doesn't like it when you
sit in his seat on the couch (the one on the left side). He's actually
gone so far as to claim ownership of words. I imitated him saying "Uh huh"
one time and he said "No, that's my 'Uh huh'!". That one really cracked
me up.
In the interest of getting him to play better with others (and just because
it's time he started to socialize, we think) we enrolled him in the toddler
program at the local Montessori preschool. He had his first class today and
seems to really enjoy it -- he goes twice a week for just a few hours in the
morning.
So long until next time...
January 5, 2006
It took me forever but I finally got around to loading up some pictures I've
had for a while. Here's what's new:
Also, I got a new camera. This is good, but the new pictures it takes are
huge so I'd rather not host the 'high resolution' images anymore. If you want
a picture to make prints from (or something like that) send me an e-mail at
greg at keriandgreg dot com and I'll pass the picture along to you.
November 20, 2005
Another month's gone by -- not much to say in the way of an update, Joel just continues to learn more words and phrases. It's getting
fun to just "chat" with him. Here's the usual links to new pictures:
October 23, 2005
Here's a bunch of links to places where there are new pictures:
Also, Keri and Greg had an
anniversary this month, so there's a new picture there. And I made a page
for friends of ours,
where I can link to pictures that might not include Joel.
Joel's still learning lots of new things, and learning them very quickly! He's getting
very good at communication, and can usually get across to us what he's thinking or what
he wants (which is almost always a "milk shake"). He can name lots of the 50
states, and knows them if you draw them or point to his puzzle map. He loves to draw on
the sidewalk with chalk, which we won't be doing for too much longer,
probably, since another winter's right around the corner.
September 21, 2005
It's been a while since I've written an update. And wow, that was a busy summer!
Here's some links to new pictures/videos:
Joel's been blowing us away lately with how much he's learning. He can
count into the twenties, recite his ABCs, read several letters, read his name
and identify all his colors. He's always repeating what we say, and
likes building sentences, like "Joel wears orange shirt, not white shirt" or
"Dada watches baseball...no football" (depending on what's on) or even "Mama
don't bite Joel's orange shirt" (don't ask).
He seems to be going the bookish route instead of the athletic route. He
still doesn't do too well on stairs, for example, and isn't nearly as active as
some other friends
of about the same age. But everyone develops in their own way, so these days
we just sit back and watch what happens -- there's something new every day.
July 20, 2005
Joel had his 18 month checkup today (no shots!) and we learned that he weighs about
26 pounds and is 32.5 inches tall. These numbers are
basically unchanged from his 15 month checkup, so he's now around 50th
percentile (a normal-sized boy). This concerned our doctor a little bit (he does get concerned
very easily) so we're going back for another checkup at 21 months to see if
he's growing again.
Joel's vocabulary just grows and grows and it's fascinating to see how much
he's learning. He remembers names and faces, can identify some colors, is a
whiz with some of his educational toys, and still loves being read to. One
thing he doesn't seem to go for is camping -- he has trouble sleeping in a
tent at night. Oh well, we'll try again next summer!
As usual, there are some new pictures and movies -- here are the links:
May 24, 2005
Joel's turning into quite a fun little guy these days. He has a pretty decent
vocabulary and understands way more than he can say. Today he went into the
pantry and brought out a snack and Dad said "But Joel you already have food on
the table." So he went and put the granola bar away, then walked over to the
table! He'll point out lots of different pictures in books if you ask him to
(bananas, drums, sheep, Elmo, etc) and he also knows who Mama, Dada and Dee-dee
(Candi) are. He even learned who Grampa was after he'd only been here a few
hours, and came pretty darn close to even saying Grampa (but we really
just heard the "Pa").
No shortage of fun these days and you can check out all the pictures/videos
with these links:
April 30, 2005
Well we've reached month number sixteen and Joel had a checkup along the way.
He gained barely a pound in weight and his height stayed the same, so he's
starting to climb down the growth ladder, and get a bit more normal-sized.
He's doing well in terms of development, has about a 15-word vocabulary and
loves to make animal sounds.
Summer's just around the corner and Joel loves to be outside too. In the
meantime, there's new pictures on the following pages:
March 20, 2005
Greg was out of town for a while so we're a little short on pictures. But we
do have a few updates:
Enjoy!
January 22, 2005
Well we made it to 2005 and Joel had his first birthday! It's been a while
between updates so here's a list of what just changed:
In the milestone department, Joel's walking quite well and sometimes seems to
even break into a mild trot. Or maybe it's more of a scamper. He's started
using some baby signs to communicate and can tell us if he wants to "Eat", "Drink",
or that he's "All done". He's also starting to get the hang of "More", which
is a similar sign to "All done". Is he really telling us what he wants or is
he just picking up the cues from us? Well, that's a subject for debate. But
the communication sure is fun!
December 21, 2004
Joel's another month older which means a new picture for the
Growing Joel
page, and a
Twelfth Month
page. There's some new ones from the
Eleventh Month
too.
Month Eleven was pretty exciting as Joel turned into a full-fledged walker!
He's also starting to make recognizable word-sounds now, and seems to be saying Mama and
Dada to refer to us, though we really can't be positive. He also makes
a sort of 'buh' sound for 'ball' and 'boo' sound for 'book'. Well, at least that's
what we think we're hearing.
Joel will be celebrating "Christmas B" with Grammy & Grampy Hudson in just a couple
days followed immediately by "Christmas C" with Grandma & Grandpa Ryan. Of course,
more pictures will follow...
December 14, 2004
Joel had "Christmas A" with Grandpa Dick at his place in Detroit -- there's a
bunch of pictures here (including a few which didn't come out very well,
unfortunately). Joel had lots of fun with Grandpa, Great Grandma Betty, Uncle
Kevin and Aunt Hope. "Christmas B" happens at the usual time (in just a couple
weeks), and he'll have Grammy & Grampy Dave here along with Grandma Jan and
Grandpa Mike.
There's also a couple new pictures of Joel playing Peekaboo on the
Eleventh Month
page.
November 20, 2004
It's been a big month for Joel, especially the last week. In the last 5 days alone,
Joel has shown us all these new tricks for the first time:
- Clapping
- Waving bye-bye (bending hand)
- Waving bye-bye (whole arm)
- Throwing toys out of the tub
- Playing ball (rolling a ball back to Mommy or Daddy)
- Putting different shaped blocks in different shaped holes
- Showing an interest in books
- Standing up from the ground using just a book to push off on
- Sprouted a new tooth (to the right of the bottom set)
- ...and the big one, WALKING!
Joel started taking his first few tentative steps on November 18th (his
Grandpa's birthday). He can travel about six to eight feet before flopping
down on his butt (or face) -- hey, you gotta start somewhere! There's a quick
video of this on the Videos
page, with more to come soon. We've also put up a new
Growing Joel
picture and started a new page for the
Eleventh Month.
In other developments, Joel eats like a big boy now, gobbling up lots of
different "table foods" (peas, cheerios, bananas and, his favorite, crackers).
It takes a long time to get through his meals now. Also, since he's eating
more solid foods, he's drinking less formula and is down to just three bottles
a day. By the time he's one year old, he should be off formula all
together.
October 23, 2004
Our son moves all over the house now, climbing stairs with relative ease.
He's always pulling himself up to a standing position, and can stand on his
own for a few seconds at a time. He had a doctor's appointment recently so we
now know that he's 23 pounds 13 ounces and 29.5 inches long. His growth is
slowing down a bit -- his weight has dropped from the uncharted
greater-than-99th percentile down to the 90th.
We put up the Tenth Month
page. There's also a new
Growing Joel picture, and it turns out he's wearing the same outfit he was
at five months...only he was swimming in it then, and now he's busting out of
it! To see a nifty side-by-side comparison of the two pictures,
September 20, 2004
Joel turns eight months old today and has recently started crawling! He loves
to get into trouble and should probably start wearing a helmet around the
house. He's got a funny crawling form where he doesn't put his left knee on the
ground but, hey, whatever works. You can observe that form on the
Videos page.
As usual, we've also added a new picture to the
Growing Joel page,
setup a
Ninth Month
page and added a couple last pictures to the old
Eighth Month
page. Enjoy!
September 8, 2004
A quick update to post
a few new videos, pictures of our lobster dinner and some pictures from our hike on
The Crimson Trail.
August 21, 2004
It's been a while since the last update -- we lost some pictures along the way
to a shoddy memory card, but only a few. There are some new pictures from the
Seventh Month
, the Eighth Month,
and on the Growing Joel
page. We've also posted a handful of new
movies.
Joel and the family are adjusting well to life in Logan. Keri's started
Professorizing over at the university, writing a syllabus and planning for
classes which start at the end of August. And she's officially a doctor now,
since she filed her thesis at UC Berkeley this past week. Greg's still doing the same old
thing in a new office and Joel spends his days playing around the house
with Candi, who we hired to help out while both parents are working.
Joel's not quite crawling yet, but he's pretty close. He can get up on his
arms OK, but isn't so good at making the feet work with the arms. Rolling
over is a breeze now, and he can actually surprise you (and himself) by rolling
back-to-front, back-to-front and ending up on the other side of the room.
He's a solid food eating superstar too, and he's tried pretty much all the fruits
and veggies that a 7-month old can.
July 20, 2004
This is just a quick update to add one new movie, a
few more Sixth Month
pictures, a new Growing Joel
picture and a couple other
Seventh Month pictures.
July 18, 2004
A lot has happened since the last update! We left the Bay Area on Saturday,
July 10 after a fun little get together with some friends. We drove to
beautiful Fernley, Nevada, then on to Boise, Idaho the next day to spend a
couple days with Joel's maternal grandparents. We left Tuesday for Logan and arrived
in the afternoon along with Joel's Grammy and Grampy (Greg's Mom, Karen, and Stepdad,
Dave).
The yard was pretty overgrown and required a lot of work, which we did with a
great deal of help from Dave the Weed Destroyer and Karen the Joel Patroller. You
can see some before and after pictures
here. There's
still quite a bit of work that needs to be done, but it's a lot more under control now.
The Joelster's adjusting well to life in the new house, and his Mommy and Daddy
are loving the fact that he has his own room now (more sleep!). Before we left California
he had his 6-month checkup (a bit early) and he's doing well -- up to 20 lbs,
2 oz already and done with vaccinations until he's a year old. His
dexterity is improving, and he now has the ability to pick up toys that he's dropped
and even play with a toy in each hand. He rolls over when his arms are in the right
position, but he still hasn't quite figured out how to get them there without
Mommy or Daddy's help. There are some new pictures of Joel on the
5-6 Month
Page.
June 23, 2004
Joel's moved on to month number six, after having his 5-month old birthday on
Father's Day. He spent the day in Southern California visiting some friends
of ours who have a 10-month-old baby of their own.
The latest
pictures include a couple from that trip. Also the
4-5 months page
has some of the pictures from earlier in our LA trip, where we spent some time
with Keri's family, and the
Growing Joel
pictures have been updated to include one from June. Finally, I've also added
a video of Joel eating yummy green beans to the
Videos page.
We think Joel weighs about 20 pounds now, from using the bathroom scale to
weigh him and his Dad together. He's pretty big! But once he starts crawling
around we think he'll start to thin out, which could be pretty soon. He's
been rolling over (front to back) for a few weeks now, and getting better at it
all the time. Once he starts to feel more comfortable on his tummy, the crawling
will probably follow pretty soon.
We'll be moving to Logan during the weekend of July 10th. Visitors who want
to take in the sun and mountains (or, later, the snow and mountains) are always welcome!
June 6, 2004
Not a real interesting update, but we've moved our website to a different host. This
means pretty much nothing to anyone that looks at these pages...but please let us know if you
encounter any problems (most likely would be missing pictures).
A more interesting update would be that we closed on our new home on Friday,
June 4th! You can view pictures of the new home
here. We plan to move in around the middle of July.
May 30, 2004
I finally got around to making a page of videos that we've shot with our
Camcorder. You can view the page by clicking
here.
These are pretty big files so if you're working over a dial-up connection then
you'll want to get a cup of coffee or something while you're waiting for the download.
The easiest thing to do (for dial-up or high speed) is probably to download the file
to a folder on your computer, then double-click the file to watch it afterwards. To
do this, right-click the picture and select 'Save Target As...'.
May 22, 2004
One more quick update to say "Congratulations!" to Keri for walking the walk
today, and getting her PhD hood.
Here are a
bunch of pictures from the big day.
May 21, 2004
Joel had his four month checkup today and now weighs a happy 17 pounds, 14
ounces. That's 4 pounds more than 2 months ago which is just about right,
although the big guy dropped from the 97th percentile down to just below the 95th
(weightwise). He's also 26 inches long now, with a head circumference around 17
inches. As a refresher, at birth he was 9 pounds, 10 ounces, 22 inches long and
his head circumference was 14.5 inches.
Things are going well with the family. Keri celebrates her graduation this
weekend and Grandma and Grandpa are in town for the festivities. Dad has
updated the
Growing Joel page so you can check out his progression into Month Five
(not a huge change there...). He's also started adding pictures to the new
Fifth Month page.
May 9, 2004
The whole family got back from Logan yesterday where we bought a house! We
spent four days looking (and sometimes re-looking) at about 40 houses and
eventually decided on one that we were both very happy with.
Pictures of the house can be seen on
this page.
Pictures that we took of Joel and the family that visited us on the trip can be seen here.
April 21, 2004
The little guy's already 3 months old and not really that little anymore.
In fact, lots of people who meet him think he might be 6 months! In the past
month Joel's gotten a lot better at supporting his head, sitting up, standing
in our laps and sleeping in his crib. His naps are still short, but his night
time sleep usually goes pretty well and we can't really complain.
He smiles and laughs all the time now, and his Mom has a great time discovering
new ways to get him to giggle.
Here are the new pictures for Month Number Four.
To see Joel growing bigger and bigger, keep an eye on this page (which
you can also access from our Pictures
page)
In other news, the whole family will be taking a trip to Logan, Utah during
the first week of May to look for a house. This will be Joel's first flight
and we're pretty nervous, but luckily it's just a quickie from Oakland to Salt Lake
City. We'll spend about a week out there and, hopefully, find and make an
offer on our Cache Valley dream home.
March 20, 2004
Joel hit two months today and couldn't be better. Pictures from 2-3 Months
can be seen here. Some milestones from month number two:
- At his last doctor's appointment (March 11) he weighed 13 lbs. 14 oz. He
has another appointment in about a week to get his first round of
immunizations (shots!)
- Joel supports his head well and can sit in our Baby Bjorn (sling) facing
out, with a little bit of padding to hold his head up
- He smiles pretty frequently and easily when he's in a good mood. He
definitely smiles in response to smiles, tickling and silly little baby talk. He's
still fussy sometimes, but less now than a month ago.
- He sleeps well, and he slept for 8 hours at a stretch at only about 5
weeks. Currently, he sleeps about 7 hours in a row at night, which works out
just fine for mommy and daddy.
March 1, 2004
I created a page with a few pictures from our Birthing Class
Reunion on Saturday (Feb. 28). Unfortunately, I didn't make good use of
the flash and a lot of the pictures came out blurry or too dark. Still, it was
a lot of fun getting together with other new parents, sharing stories and
checking out all the babies.
February 21, 2004
Joel reached his one month birthday yesterday and the little guy's doing A-OK.
Some milestones from the first month:
- At his last checkup (February 10) Joel weighed 10 lbs. 11 oz. This
is right about where a baby with his birth weight should be.
- We've actually reached sort of a schedule, where Joel eats about 4-5 oz of formula/breastmilk every 3-4 hours. It varies though (going as high as 6), but it's getting better all the time. At night, he can sleep for up to 5 hours at a time, which is nice.
- Joel's pretty good at supporting his head when he's sitting up. He can't do it indefinitely, but long enough to look around the room and check things out. He likes to focus on faces, or just stare off at the walls.
- He smiles occasionally and sometimes makes some cooing noises, though it's rare that he actually smiles in
response to something. Mom giving him face-raspberries works pretty well.
I've updated the pictures page to include 2nd month pictures (only one so far, but more are coming). I also finally got around to including a few pictures from our Bass Lake trip that we took a couple years ago with Keri's family.
Finally, I updated some of the pictures pages (including all the Joel
pictures) with links that give you a high resolution version of the picture.
This is what you'll want to save if you're trying to get prints made at a drug
store or supermarket (they have little machines that do that), or if you want
to print them out at home. Just right-click on the link that says "high
resolution version" and select 'Save Target As...', then save it somewhere on
your computer.
January 23, 2004
I've added a page for pictures from 0 - 1 months, which I'll update as often
as I can. Click here to view it.
January 22, 2004
Joel is here!
And his web page is too! Click
here to view it.
Coming soon: A page with more details about the birth and, of course, more
pictures (and videos)!
January 1, 2004
Well we made it to 2004 and the baby still thinks life is better on the
inside so we're just waiting around. There's another picture in the
pregression which you can view by clicking here. This will definitely be the last of these
pictures -- the next ones should have an actual baby!
Not much else to say from our end of the world -- we had a quiet Christmas at
home (here's a picture of the
tree, with Keri's new rocking chair/ottoman) and our friend Phyllis came
over for dinner. In the evening we visited Greg's cousin Mike and his family
(wife Lisa, Mia, Dean and Anna). Three kids looks like a lot of fun, but
we're just going to try and handle the one.
It's any day now at this point -- so the next update should be pretty big
news...
December 7, 2003
Michaeleen planned and pulled off our baby shower today and we had a great
time. Thanks again to Michaeleen for planning this little event, and much
thanks to everyone who came and bought (or sent) gifts. Click on this link
to view a slide show of baby
shower pictures. Also, we have some pictures of our baby's dresser/changing table and
crib.
December 1, 2003
We've "pregressed" into December, and you can see the latest picture in the
series here (it's quite a
difference!).
Keri accepted the job at Utah State so we'll be moving the family to Utah in
2004 (probably in June or July, after Keri becomes Dr. Ryan). We're both
real happy about this -- here's some pictures of Logan so that you'll want to come
and visit us. Here's some more general information about the city and surrounding area
Greg celebrated his 29th birthday last month and Keri (a.k.a. Superwife)
baked him a cake. Keri
turns 28 in just a couple days (December 4th). Our baby shower is scheduled
for December 7 and Keri's mom will be here to provide support and go shopping.
The baby is happily heads down and kicks pretty regularly. Keri feels his
limbs in odd positions at odd times ("Greg, there's a foot under my rib!").
We're only about a month away from our January 5 due date so we don't plan to
go anywhere for the holidays -- just spend some quiet time at home. By the
time we're writing the next update, it's possible the little guy may already be
born. If he's not, then we'll write one more pregnancy update in January and
after that well move on to Baby Updates (yay!).
November 2, 2003
Once again, we've added some new pictures to the pregression (click
here to see them).
In other news, we've started taking birthing classes and will take an all-day
child care class in December. Plans for a baby shower are very much in the
works (probably in early December). The baby now kicks hard enough to wake
his father up if he rolls over too close to his mother (mom points out that
that's hard to avoid these days). The current list of
potential names is Adlee, Aidan, Caden, Cole, Darwin, Frisky, Justin and Scott.
And last but definitely not least, Keri got a job offer to be an Assistant
Professor at Utah State
University...so we might be moving to Utah next summer!
Finally, we celebrated our second anniversary in pretty
low key fashion last month, with a night out for dinner at
Chez Pannise in
Berkeley (it's good!). Here's a page where you can view pictures from each of
our past anniversaries (you can also see these on the
Pictures page).
October 1, 2003
New pictures in the pregression (click here to see them). I've added a new section of pictures
in maternity clothes. We decided we should start showing these pictures too
because, pretty soon, those old clothes just ain't gonna fit anymore.
The baby moves enough so that I can feel it pretty often too. He'll go
through stretches where he's jumping up and down for hours then he barely
moves at all for a whole day. I guess he's just settling into a nice, comfy position.
Current leading name candidates: Adlai, Aidan, Justin and Magnus Ver
(which is fading very, very fast). I'll post another update when there's more
news, and definitely by next November 1 (when I add the next picture).
Go A's! Go Cubs!!
September 1, 2003
I've added this month's pictures to the "pregression" which you can view by
clicking here.
In other news, Keri's starting to feel the baby move around a bit! She mostly
feels him when she's not doing anything that would distract her, like working.
This means she doesn't feel him very often, since she's working pretty hard to
finish up her thesis.
We've started talking a bit about names too. It's too soon to say what
we're thinking, but if you want to play along check out
www.babynames.com which has
loads and loads of possibilities. We're trying to find something that's not
too common (none of the ones in last year's top 10) but not too uncommon either.
August 15, 2003
It's a boy!
We had our "midway" (well, 19 weeks) ultrasound today and discovered that the baby Keri's
carrying around is a boy. Don't believe us? Well here are the pictures to prove it!
There was some controversy around here about who wanted which kind of baby
(for the record, I really didn't care either way!) but needless to say,
we're both very excited! Keri had done a good job of convincing herself she
was going to have a girl, so the news came as a little bit of a shock.
Now we get to start thinking of names...
August 3, 2003
Well, Greg finally redid the web page after
procrastinating for a good year and a half. There's new pictures on the
pictures page and we'll try to update this page semi-regularly. Definitely
once a month so we can add to the "pregression".

In other news, Greg's still working for PCX Systems and travelling occasionally to Los Angeles. He's playing hockey a couple of nights a week and recently joined a softball team too. (It's fun to stay active and I might as well, since something tells me I'll have a lot less time come January.)
Keri's still working towards her PhD at UC Berkeley. She's hoping to
get the bulk of her research done by the end of this year so she can
concentrate on just writing her thesis after the baby comes. She's in week 18
of the pregnancy now, meaning the baby's about 5.5 inches long and weighs
about 7 ounces. Wow. There's a picture from our first ultrasound (week 7 or
so) here. Well, yeah, there's not much to see there...
The next ultrasound is August 15th and it will have much higher
resolution. Also, after that one, we should know whether we'll be having a boy or
girl.
